Caity aka Promise Keeper

Top - Forever21, Vest - Free People, Jeans - American Eagle, Belt - American Eagle, Shoes - Gap, Umbrella - Target

Along with the champagne, noise makers, and party hats, new years bring along a lot of unkept promises.  Of course I'm talking about all those resolutions we make and never keep for longer than a week.  Like the rest of America, I have always promised myself that I would start exercising and eating healthy.  Let's be real, this will not happen.  I prefer cake over carrots and you would be more likely to find me on the couch then the gym.  In fact it would be foolish of you to look for me in a gym or in the carrot aisle.  This year I'm breaking the habit and am making doable resolutions that actually fit me.  Crazy idea?  I thought so too.

1. Keep my room at a manageable mess level.  *Note - This does not mean a three item deep layer across the floor with only a winding walking path to the door.

2. Learn to sew.  My mom got me a sewing machine for Christmas and I am determined to learn how to use it.  Sewing and I haven't meshed in the past, but I think 2011 will mark the beginning of an inseparable bond.

3. Speaking of using Christmas gifts, I will also start baking some mini cupcakes.  I received two mini cupcake makers from the two people who know me best, talk about a good Christmas!  I don't promise to become the next fashion blogging Julia Child but I do promise to fill my belly with as many mini cupcakes as possible.

I feel confident about keeping my new years resolutions, because they are something I want to do.  Happy New Years and may your resolutions make you happy and healthy.  Hey, mini cupcakes are healthier than the big ones.

Borderlines

Today was spent in the car driving to Chicago, visiting for about an hour and then heading back home.  It was exhausting.  And if that wasn't bad enough, I had to be in a suit the ENTIRE time!  I am actually amazed I kept it on the whole ride.  I normally make it a strict rule to only wear sweats on car rides over one hour.  But I persevered and wore it all day with heels, and only complained minimally while doing so.  Someone may disagree with me on this last part, but luckily he doesn't have a blog to tell you his take on the matter.  Before today I could confidently say that I disliked suits greatly, after today I am bordering on severely dislike and hate.  They fit weird and look so stiff.  I think I'm giving up on them, but if anyone has any suggestions I would love the help. Even though the suit put a damper on my day, my night has been perfect with some Scrabble playing and Top Chef watching.  Now I need to go catch some zzz's so I am wide awake to ring in the new year tomorrow.

I may have lost, but I lost graciously.

Bring on the Holidays

Christmas always goes by so fast.  The weeks before go by in a blur and then Christmas just sneaks up on you whether you're ready or not.  But the holiday daze continues with New Years Eve being right around the corner. Whether you are hitting the town or are planning a comfortable night at home, these festive pieces will get your news years started on the right beat.  I'm favoring on the side of comfort, but that doesn't mean I won't be glitzing it up.  My favorite look?...Some sparkled bottoms, simple top, killer shoes, and the icing on the cake accessory.  A simple tee will keep this look from being too over the top.
Sequin Hot Pant, $22.80, Forever 21
Jeffrey Campbell Cherie Grey Suede Platform Ankle Boot - $219, Jeffrey Campbell Wrecker Black Leather Buckled Ankle Boots - $211,  Privileged Moss Black Side Bow Platform Heel - $35, Steve Madden Faame Black Satin Bowtiful High Heels - $113

Elastic Jeweled Bracelets - $8.80, Beaded Bracelet Set - $4.80, Flower and Sunburst Collar Necklace - $19.80, Glimmering Beaded Chain Necklace - $7.80
Finish off the look with some tights and a small bag to carry your extras.  I prefer small bags with a strap when going out at night, something that fits my id, gloss, mints, and some cash, this way it's easier to keep track of and harder to lose.  If you plan on dancing slip a pair of to-go flats in your bag or coat pocket, your tootsies will thank you later!  Get styling your look now, so when the night gets here you're ready to go.  Happy Styling!

The All Knowing Camera

What's missing??
Aha!

Shirt - Forever21, Vest - Old Navy, Scarf - borrowed (mom), Belt - BCBG, Jeans - American Eagle
It's laundry day for me, which means I have heaps and heaps of laundry to do and I'm not doing it.  It is now almost 8, and I haven't started.  I will soon, I promise.  Since my go to's are in line for a washing I had to resort to something new.  So I put on this shirt and vest and headed downstairs.  I wasn't sure about this outfit, so I thought a second opinion (my camera) would help.  The camera definitely came through for me, I owe it one.  Something was missing in my first outfit and I knew it, I just didn't know what.  After seeing the picture I knew right away...a belt!  Thank you camera, I will return the favor by letting you know when you're looking a little too flashy.

Holiday Cheer

Dress - Chupi, Scarf - borrowed(mom), Tights - Charlotte Russe, Belt - Forever21, Boots - Madden Girl

I love Christmas and all that goes along with it.  I love the snow.  I love the lights.  I love the decorations.  I love the hustle and bustle.  And I love the presents.  Presents really give Christmas that extra umph all the other holidays are missing.  I mean I love fireworks just as much as the next person, but wouldn't 4th of July be better with a gift exchange?  For the past 21 years of my life presents I will be receiving were always first and foremost in my mind.  Now I'm not about to tell you I have gone through a huge transformation and that I don't get giddy just thinking about my new, soon to be items , because that would be a lie.  But I am starting to realize how much better giving really is then getting.  It doesn't have to be money or gifts, but time and thought.  Sometimes it's the simplest things that make others feel special; a phone call, an opened door, a smile.  I hope you all receive your wish list goodies and all the little extras, Happy Holidays.

Choosing The Road Well Styled

Top - Forever21, Skirt - H&M, Belt - Forever21, Tights - Charlotte Russe

Since starting a blog I have become a different dresser and a different shopper.  I have always liked things that were a little different and had their own charm, but I never put them together just right.  A necklace was needed, a belt was missing, tights were longing to be slipped on over my pasty stems, the glue that would have brought everything together was MIA.  This past summer and fall and now winter I have had more extra time on my hands then ever before, graduating and having a part time job is to blame, and I had no idea what to fill it with.  I became obsessed with reading fashion blogs and seeing all the different ideas they came up with.  Whether it was wrapping a scarf a certain way or looping a belt another I became enthralled.  I took their inspiration and then started coming up with my own new fresh looks for my old wardrobe.  And it was better than shopping.  No longer do I just wear jeans with a tee.  I now layer, dazzle, wrap, and repeat until I'm satisfied with the look.  It has been a fun journey so far and I can't wait to see where it takes me.

Grown-Ups

Dress - Chupi, Belt - BCBG, Scarf - Target, Tights - Forever21, Shoes - Target (ballet flats, not seen)

This weekend my boyfriend graduated from college (woo hoo!), and now we are both college graduates and I am finally starting to feel like a grown-up.  I have been in denial that I am an adult, sometimes I don't even feel like I'm a teenager.  I am 22 so that is probably a problem.  But lately I am sensing a change. Some things I do just seem so grown-up, and I feel so proud of myself.  And then the other things (the fun ones) bring me back down to little kid level.

My Grown-up Activities
1. I dress up for work, I even wear heels sometimes.
2. My eyeliner is suddenly going on straighter and my hair is starting to do a do.
3. I have a savings account.
4. I have a Netflix account (somehow this feels grown-up)
5. My boyfriend and I are sending out a joint Christmas "greeting"

Child-like
1. My dress up clothes include tutus and giant bows.
2. My eyeliner typically has glitter in it and I sometimes tie pom poms in my hair.
3. I dream of spending it on more tutus and bows and maybe even a puppy.
4. Every Disney series is on my instant queue.
5. It's us signing Jingle Bells with our voice auto-tuned sent out via text message.

That was a very short lived case of the grown-ups, I'm glad that's over.

Look Mom No Hands

Fashion Show with Google from Robbin Waldemar on Vimeo.

Coolest thing ever!  Think of all the time that could be saved trying on outfits the mess free way.  My floor and closet would love me for giving them breathing room instead of suffocating them with piles of rejected clothes.

Snow Shoes

It started snowing today in Michigan on December 1!  This must be a sign of good things to come.  When I woke up and saw the white flurries falling, I immediately changed into my Christmas pajamas as to continue the good Christmas spirit.  All I want to do is curl up with a hot coco and watch some holiday movies.  And maybe slip on these sparklers when I dare run outside and see the fluffiness first hand.  I know these aren't what one would consider "snow shoes" but I like to break from the norm.  They are boots and they sparkle like snow, and I mean I would never wear them in serious snowfall only every other day.  These boots may be on my wishlist along with the comment "I will love you forever and ever, size 7."  There are times to be subtle in life, but Christmas time is not one of them.

If you aren't a glitter whore like me.

The Floaty Knight

I am not a huge Batman fan, but I sure would be willing to borrow that cape of his.  Batwings sleeves literally (okay maybe not literally) have me drooling.  I love the flowyness they lend to tops and the whimsical air they bring to any outfit.  These tops will bring me one step closer to being able to fly through the skies.  The only super power that would top flying is the one where you can shoot hundreds out of your fingertips, think of all the clothes and delectables you could buy then!  Until that time though I guess I just have to stick with these floaty sleeved tops and hope for some strong winds to whisk me away.
